Sydney Popsuj
B Mitzvah Program Director
As the Director of JKG’s B Mitzvah Program, Sydney is responsible for all things related to the two-year program: the curriculum, managing the teaching team, planning community service trips, and leading our second-year students’ group B Mitzvah ceremony. She is also responsible for all aspects of JKG’s robust Leadership Academy. Sydney has been teaching at JKG since 2017 and sees her role as a mutual learning opportunity. Beginning her own conversion to Judaism in 2016, she has developed a very close connection with her original JKG class and was recently Bat Mitzvah’ed herself alongside the class of 2023.
When she is not teaching, Sydney is a PhD student in the biology program at Georgia Tech and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Agnes Scott College. Sydney also enjoys sewing, roller-skating, playing music, and cooking. In her classroom, you are just as likely to learn about strange marine invertebrates as you are to learn how to braid challah!
