JKG Staff in Training (SIT): Grades 8-10

Locations in Dunwoody and Old Fourth Ward

The fun at JKG doesn’t end after your B’nei Mitzvah! Our “Staff in Training” (SIT) program is for young teens to gain experience of what it’s like to be in an immersive, leadership role through JKG. SIT’s have the opportunity to give back to their community by assisting teachers and interacting with students. Through this program, we strive to empower SIT’s to develop leadership skills, gain hands-on job experience, continue learning Jewishly, and have authentic gatherings with peers.

So what does this program entail?

The SIT program consists of four elements detailed below:

  • Teaching Experience

    • SITs will get hands-on experience as teaching assistants during JKG hours in Preschool through 7th grade classes.

  • SIT at Sunday Funday

    • SITs are included in our annual teacher training, “Sunday Funday.” This training sets the stage for a year of learning and engagement together. This program focuses heavily on leadership development and Jewish learning.

  • Four- Part Leadership Development Sessions

    • SITs experienced leadership development as a cohort on four days throughout the year. These days give SITs the opportunity to not only learn new skills, but discuss their experiences in the classroom and get real-time feedback from professionals and their peers.

  • Peer-Led Programming:

    • By teens, for teens! SITs will have the opportunity to plan and lead their own community building events, programs, and activities so that they are able to engage in what most aligns with their interests, personal goals, and career aspirations. JKG will support the planning and preparation of the event and give guidance to the teen planners.

What are the requirements for this program?

SITs must be between the ages of 13-15 years old (8th-10th grade). They also must be committed to working at JKG’s Sunday school at any of our locations for the entire school year (a total of 26 Sundays throughout the year.) Check out our calendar here.

Are all the components required of each participant?

SITs are expected to attend the Sunday Funday and at least three workshops throughout the year. Peer-led programming is optional but SITs are highly encouraged to participate!
