Weekday Afternoon Positions (Part-Time)

JKG Afternoon Teacher - Brookhaven, Morningside, Decatur (for Kindergarten-5th Grade)

The JKG Afternoon Community is a completely unique place for kids to play and learn. We offer the services of a premium Afternoon community program with a full, experiential Hebrew school curriculum. We are, as our name implies, a joyful Jewish community. This will inform the way you execute all of your duties as a Teacher.

Job Summary

JKG Afternoon Community combines the safe, reliable weekday afternoon care families need with the FUN, enriching, camp-style experience kids want. 

As a JKG Afternoon teacher, you will guide students in Kindergarten-5th grade to:

  • Build meaningful friendships with neighborhood Jewish kids 

  • Explore Jewish art and music

  • Learn Jewish values, culture, holidays, Torah Stories and Hebrew language (lesson plans provided)

Locations

We are seeking teachers for all three of our Afternoon locations in:

  • Morningside

  • Brookhaven

  • Decatur

Days and Hours 

Monday-Friday, 12:30 PM - 6:15PM. Partial week roles may be available (for example, M/W/F). Students arrive daily at 2:30 PM.

Responsibilities

As a JKG Afternoon teacher you will:

  • Create and facilitate Jewish art and music projects, Hebrew lessons, and games that reinforce specific Jewish learning goals with your students. Your site director, teacher colleagues, and the JKG curriculum will guide and support your efforts.

  • Engage in different tasks under the direction of the JKG Afternoon Director. Among them:

    • Document lesson plans

    • Participate in monthly staff meetings and collaborative teacher planning meetings 

    • Attend holiday celebrations and promotional events (such as open houses, festival booths, etc.)

    • Prepare the classroom spaces daily to welcome students 

    • Drive the JKG van daily to pick up students from local schools

Qualifications and Skills

Our most successful teachers:

  • Enjoy working with kids in Kindergarten-5th grade

  • Love and have an understanding of Jewish culture, holidays, and the Hebrew language

  • Have experience as camp counselors, tutors, Sunday school teachers, or classroom teachers

Many JKG teachers are experienced former teachers or enthusiastic members of the Jewish community who want to inspire young people part-time. Others are college students looking to gain classroom experience and earn money on weekday afternoons. All teachers should be able to teach basic Hebrew and Judaic studies using the lesson plans we provide. JKG teachers are not required to have formal classroom experience or certifications, but it is certainly a plus.

B Mitzvah & Teen Leadership Program Positions (Part-Time)

JKG B Mitzvah Teacher

The JKG B Mitzvah Program offers a unique and meaningful way for students to become Jewish adults. Our in-person experience blends Jewish learning and community service, culminating in a group B Mitzvah celebration. Students in 6th-8th grade learn together, build lasting Jewish friendships, and prepare for this special milestone in a joyful, supportive community.

As a B Mitzvah Teacher, you’ll help create an engaging, supportive environment where students can learn, connect, and thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Sunday morning lessons in a fun, interactive way

  • Foster a positive classroom environment and support student engagement

  • Review weekly lesson plans and complete pre- and post-session check-ins

  • Set up and clean up the classroom space before and after each session

Position Details

  • Schedule: Sundays, 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM

  • Grades: 6th–8th

  • Location: Morningside

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead Jewish studies lessons (curriculum provided)

  • Hebrew knowledge preferred

  • Relate well with middle schoolers and teens

  • Prior teaching experience is a plus
