Time for tu b'shvat
This week at JKG Afterschool Community we are learning all about the holiday of Tu B'Shvat, the birthday of the trees. We will celebrate the holiday together next week with a Tu B'Shvat activity day (Wednesday) and traditional seder (Thursday). During our Tu B'Shvat exploration and celebration we will discuss the significance of the holiday, our relationship with the Earth, and have a chance to taste the Seven Species of Israel. Download and print the booklet embedded below to learn more about the Seven Species of Israel with your child.
Ask your child how he or she can help protect the Earth.
We will also be writing our third letters to Israeli pen pals this week and next. In conjunction with letter writing we will learn about Israeli heroes, including Hannah Senesh (a brave female paratrooper) and Theodore Hertzl (Father of Zionism).
Ask your child about what they think makes someone a hero. Do they have a hero?
Word of the week: Tree is עֵץ (Eitz)
