Welcome back JKG families! In the JKG Afterschool Communitiy, we are kicking off our spring semester by learning about חֲבֵרוּת and קהילה (friendship and community). A new year is a great time for new friendship, so our students challenged themselves to spend more time with different students: we made friendship bracelets for new friends and sketched portraits of each other. JKG students also reflected on what it means to be a part of a קהילה (community), whether that be in their classroom, family, neigborhood, or even as big as the global Jewish community. We completed a couple of projects for our immediate local community by participating in a clean up nature walk and making sandwiches for a local shelter.
Friendship bracelets! On the left, singlings help each other braid a bracelet. On the right, Andrea helps a JKG student make a friendship ring (or finger bracelet as some kids called it!).
It takes a lot of focus to perfectly portray a new friend!
Some new friends and their completed portraits!
To help our local קהילה (community), our JKG students made sandwiches to pass out to shelters. We're trying to make 50 this week!
We're so glad to be back in session! Check back with us next week as we start learning about Tu B'Shvat and taking care of our environment.
