JKG exposes kids to an entire plethora of values, cultures, and experiences crucial to one's Jewish identity and personal development.
This week, to ease children into the much anticipated Winter Vacation, we held the first ever JKG Maccabi Games!
From Trivia to Sports to the Arts - kids engaged in all forms of Jewish and Israeli culture, getting the physical activity they need after a full day of classroom-sitting, but also making sure that their education doesn't stop when the bell rings fin.
Thursday, on the last day of JKG Maccabi's friendly competition, we held an Israel-themed day: The overall goal of the activities was to push teach as much historical content as possible while making the lessons super fun and ridiculously awesome.
Who knows, maybe there's even some stuff we covered that you didn't know...!
-We taught kids about their ancestry, which originated either in Eastern Europe (Ashkenazi) or in Western Europe/Northern Africa (Sephardi)
-We taught kids about the Ingathering of the Exiles, which is still taking place today (in fact, one of our teachers is moving to Israel this summer!)
-We taught kids about the diverse character of the State of Israel, which is evident in both Music and Food across the country
-We taught kids about the JNF, which is an organization started by Diaspora Jews to build and plant in the Land of Israel
-(as always) We taught kids Hebrew - the only dead language to ever be revived!!!
